Evaluation and transparency reports on carbon leakage compensation for 2022 released

Date 02/07/2024

We, the German Emission Trading Authority, are obliged to publish the main results of the application procedures for the BEHG Carbon Leakage Compensation (Section 26 (1) BECV). An evaluation report on the results for the accounting year 2021 (CLK Report 2021) was published on 27/03/2024. We have now published the report for the accounting year 2022 (CLK Report 2022).

In the second accounting year of carbon leakage compensation (CLK) in accordance with the BEHG-Carbon Leakage Regulation (BECV), the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) approved applications from a total of 493 companies. The total amount of aid for 2022 amounted to around 62.3 million euros. This is based on compensated emissions of around 2.6 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).

After the approval of the BEHG-Carbon Leakage Regulation (BECV) by the European Commission (10/08/2023 - SA.63191 (2023/N)), we are also obliged to name all companies that have received aid of more than 100,000 euros. A corresponding list, including relevant company data and the amount of aid, can be found in the Transparency Report on Carbon Leakage Compensation 2022. The total of 188 companies included 160 large companies, 27 medium-sized companies and one small company.
