The German Emission Allowances Trading Authority at the Federal Environment Agency (DEHSt) publicized the process of naming expert assessors for verification of allocation applications within the framework of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Law (TEHG) today, June 22 2004. Interested expert assessors will find the necessary information online at www.umweltbundesamt.de/emissionshandel under the “Sachverständige” [Expert assessors] heading.

To be recognized as a TEHG expert assessor interested assessors must either be licensed by the German Accreditation Body for Environmental Verifiers (DAU) or show proof of permit as expert assessor as per § 36 of the Trade Regulation Act issued by a local Chamber of Commerce.

The Emission Allowances Trading Authority is accepting applications for recognition as expert assessor. Announcements will be made on the DEHSt website. Once the TEHG enters into force companies participating in emissions trading can get information about suitable expert assessors at the site.

According to the jurisdiction of emissions trading matters shared by the federal and Laender governments, an appointment as expert assessor by the German Allowances Trading Authority only grants the right to review allocation applications. Expert assessors for annual reporting will be named by the appropriate public authority in each federal state.
