The EU Emissions Trading System 1 (EU ETS 1) operates on a market economy basis to reduce emissions of climate-damaging gases in Europe. In Germany, operators of large energy installations and energy-intensive industrial plants, plus aircraft and ship operators participate in the emissions trading system (EU ETS 1).
